Dhaliwal Bet (Kapurthala)

Dhaliwal Bet is a popular village of Kapurthala District situated on the Beas river bank. The population exceeds 7000. The village was established by Dhaliwal Jats and almost all Jat families share the common surname Dhaliwal. The local school is named Tara Singh Memorial Khalsa Public School.

Notable People
Lieutenant (A/Capt.) Jhaggar Singh hailed from Dhaliwal Bet. Jhaggar Singh was one of the two sons of Natha Singh. He died fighting on alien land during World War I. A statue of Captain Jhaggar Singh was brought from Paris in 1926 by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala State which is currently placed at the Captain Jhaggar Singh War Memorial, Kapurthala. His younger brother, Amar Singh, too, died very young. Posted as Subedar in the British army, he died while leading a rebellion against the British rule. Every year, people of Dhaliwal Bet commemorate Amar Singh's sacrifice.
The famous politicians Jathedar Jivan Singh Umranangal and Punjab Ex-Transport Minister Raghbir Singh also belong to Dhaliwal Bet.
The current sarpanch of Dhaliwal Bet is Makhan Singh Arhtia.
Events
The village is famous for an annual Kabbadi tournament and the Baba Mohabbat Shah Mela, held in the end of June, where top Punjabi artists perform. Many people from Dhaliwal have migrated to USA, Canada, and UK.
